Everything you need to know to start and run your own successful Family Day Care
I have been an Early Childhood Teacher for over 6 years now. I'm also the mum to 2 gorgeous boys. Since having my second child I have wanted to work from home. I've tried all different ways to make money from home; Tupperware, admin work and running workshops for Early Childhood Educators just to name a few. Earlier this year after dropping my boys off to an amazing Family Day Care Educator I realised that I would be perfect at this. It also meant that I could spend my days with my boys!
TIPS FOR NEW EDUCATORS: I love sharing my tips for new educators. This week I want to share something that is really important and could help you increase the length of time you ENJOY Family Day Care. When I first started FDC I really needed the money. I made the decision because I knew I would enjoy and I really didnt want to have to get a job outside of the home whilst my kids were so young. The first mistake I made was deciding to do full time hours during the school holidays!! Now, I know many educators who are sole parents or sole income earners for their families and have no choice in the amount of hours they do. I want to give them a huge hug and say ‘you are doing an amazing job!’. But… if you can choose between doing 3 days or doing 5 days then start with 3 to see how you go. I watch educators burn out trying to do 5 days a week (or more!) and they just hate FDC. Yes the money isnt fantastic but it does get you more freedom than most jobs. So my tip for new educators is to start off with the minimum hours you need to do financially for your family and then build up if you desire to. It’s much harder to cut days back and it will annoy your families (I had to do it!!). FDC can be quite tiring for you and your family so start slow and ease yourself into it. For all those experienced educators, what would you add? If you want to learn more strategies and receive amazing resources for your Family Day Care be sure to check out the Family Day Care Academy. In the FDC Academy I share how […]
I really enjoyed the course [Start Your Own Family Day Care: 21 Day Online Course] as it was great to see how a real educator ,who has her own FDC, works and sharing her everyday life, how she programs and the way she juggles with work and family. I particularly loved the real aspect of it all! Thank you Nicky

I would like to thank you Nicky for putting this course together, it has definitely answered a lot of questions I had lingering and the information you provided has definitely helped. Will look forward to any future courses you may put through!! I come from a Childcare Centre background and participating in this on line course has given me a greater understanding and appreciation in what’s involved in a Family day care setting. The positives definitely outweigh the negatives!! I found the entire content very useful but to name a few that stood out, found in Module 3. ‘Defining my dream family’ and ‘Marketing my Business’. It really gave me a greater perspective with regards to owning my business, marketing to the intended audience that suits my family and I, and running with it. It made me see Family Day Care in a new light and I can definitely see the benefits to why families prefer this type of setting and of those that decide to take up FDC.
